FROM OUR FOUNDER
As a mom and the founder of Piuma, I understand how overwhelming clothing can be for sensory sensitive kids. Piuma swimsuits are designed to be sensory friendly—we start with how they feel on the body, not how they look on a hanger.
Sensory-friendly swimwear isn’t a buzzword to me; it’s a necessity. Many kids struggle with itchy seams, tight elastics, scratchy tags, and synthetic fabrics that trap heat and moisture. Piuma eliminates those stressors. The fabrics are intentionally soft, breathable, and smooth against the skin, reducing friction and that constant “something’s wrong” feeling that can ruin a beach day before it starts. Flat seams and thoughtful construction matter, especially when water magnifies every discomfort.
Piuma suits move with the body, not against it. There’s no digging, squeezing, or rigid shaping that can trigger sensory overload. For kids who are neurodivergent, highly sensitive, or simply opinionated about how clothing feels, that freedom is everything.
Swim time should be joyful, not a battle.
Sensory-friendly swimwear isn’t about lowering expectations. It’s about raising the standard so more kids can feel safe, calm, and confident in their bodies.
Con amore,
Enrica
